The Digital Marketing Trend in India

If you are an active internet user, then you must have heard the term ‘Digital Marketing’. The young generations are aggressively learning this new skill and making their career in this sector. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that digital marketing has become the first choice for young India as a career preference. And not just only the young generation, professionals working in different sectors like IT, sales and marketing, etc, are enrolling themselves in part time studies to acquire this additional skill.

India has experienced a boom in internet and smartphone penetration. According to a report published by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) last year, there will be 900 million Internet users in India by 2025. India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) also estimates that India’s digital sector is expected to reach US$ 1 trillion by 2030. The overall e-commerce market is also expected to reach US$ 350 billion by 2030. This Digitization trend indicates that digital marketing will be the upcoming need for businesses.

What is Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is simply using digital channels to market products and services to reach consumers. This type of marketing involves the use of websites, mobile devices, social media, search engines, and other similar channels. It involves some of the same principles as traditional marketing.

Companies often combine traditional and digital marketing techniques in their strategies. But it comes with its own set of challenges, including implicit bias. The idea is to promote a business or product by creating a buzz on the internet.

SMSs messaging, email marketing, website optimization, social media management, content management, communications and many other countless activities have now become an integral part of this profession. Many digital marketing agencies today are also offering services like corporate photoshoots, PR activities, image-brand building and crisis management, etc. A business can simply take all the services it needs from one stop.

Scope

The internet and e-commerce have together given a wide field to play. Many people are now opting for working as a freelancer rather than doing a 9 to 5 job. Research conducted by the Boston Consulting Group in 2021 suggests that the number of freelancing jobs could increase three-fold over the next four years and might be the primary source of income for 24 million people in India. Many people are also opting for freelancing jobs like copywriting/content writing, data analytics, web design/development, etc. The current situation suggests that the scope of digital marketing is bright and one can earn good money by opting for it.
